MORMUGAO : 26-FEB-2015

The first pilot workshop with the primary school teachers from Mormugao taluka was held in IHM Goa on 26th February 2015.

32 teachers attended the workshop and their feedback was precious.

One of the schools invited us to hold the same workshop for their school teachers.

Our resource people were: Yoguita Mehra, Tallulah D’Silva, Natacha Fernandes, Richard Dias and Prerna Pawaskar who share their thoughts on waste management.

Nalini Elvino de Sousa, manager of Communicare Trust, talked about how every school could make movies out of waste.

QUELLOSIM SPECIAL : 14-MAR-2015

This was a special workshop held only for the teachers, staff and students of St. Ann’s School in Quelossim.

The audience (around 100 people) was eager to learn especially how to convert waste into wealth.

Since the students were also present, Nalini conducted a game where they learnt to segregate waste in a fun way.

The resource people present were: Yoguita Mehra from Green Essentials, Tallulah D’Silva from Mission Green Goa, Prerna Pawaskar from waste Wise Foundation and Jayesh Raut who spoke on behalf of Communicare Trust giving some ideas on how to deal with waste.

QUEPEM : 27-JUL-2015

Our workshop in Quepem was a wonderful success. It was held at the Pope John XXIII HSS in collaboration with the Don Bosco College of Agriculture Sulcorna Goa. We had around 90 teachers in attendance and their excitement and eagerness to learn was palpable. Our wonderful resource people spoke to our participants on the ways and means of waste management, with the base principles of re-use and recycle. The resource people who formed the panel of speakers included Dr. Cassie Rodrigues. Principal in Charge of Don Bosco’s College of Agriculture Sulcorna,Dr. Miguel Braganza, Assistant Professor of Horticulture at Don Bosco’s College of Agriculture Sulcorna ,Ms. Tallulah Silva Mission Green Goa , Nalini Elvino de Sousa from Communicare Trust who spoke about the Magic Box, Yogita Mehra from Green Essentials and Natasha Fernandes with Aira and Milan from Naree Artisans Movement.

Participants were given booklets, written and published by Communicare Trust, detailing all the activities the schools can implement for waste management. In participating in our workshop the schools are now in a competition, to be organized by Communicare Trust with participants from all the Talukas where we will be holding more such workshops, for yearend Best Practices Prizes for the best schools in each Taluka as well as over all prizes in each category. The schools are also given a chance to join our Waste Management communities where they can confer with each other on how their processes are progressing and how to solve problems that may come up. We look forward to a wonderful year of working with them and educating them in the area of Waste Management. We hope they enjoyed participating as much as we did organizing. Looking forward to seeing them inculcate these ideas in the little minds of their students who will soon lead us to a better future.

SALCETE : 27-AUG-2015

This workshop organized by Communicare Trust with the support of Rosary College in Navelim was held at the college for the primary teachers of Salcete.

Fr. Simon Diniz, Principal of Rosary College, spoke on the occasion.

The workshop was attended by 27 teachers and the program was as follows:

2pm – Welcome by Nalini Elvino de Sousa – filmmaker and Manager of Communicare Trust that explained about the program “Magic Box” – movies made out of waste.

2:30pm – Tallulah D’Silva – architect and environmentalist talked about various programs that can be done with children which lead them to segregate waste in a fun way.

There was a small coffee break followed by Natacha Fernandes and her team who had a practical session with the teachers.

At 4:30pm Yoguita Mehra talked about how to segregate wet waste and how to use it in the kitchen garden followed by a 10min video which explained how to compost.

In the end there was a small interaction with all the teachers.

SATTARI : 29-OCT-2015

Communicare conducted a waste management workshop for the Primary School teachers of Sattari Taluka. It was organized in collaboration with Shree Hanuman Vidyalaya, Valpoi.

The program was as follows:

Welcome by Nalini Elvino de Sousa– filmmaker and Manager of Communicare Trust who gave an explanation about the program “Magic Box” (movies made out of waste) followed by a video.

Nalini also explained how to use the “Khamba” – a composting unit.

Sushant Figueiredo addressed the gathering and explained about the segregation of electronic waste and how you should disposed it in a safe manner.

The workshop was attended by 94 teachers from the Sattari taluka.

CANACONA : 14-DEC-2015

This workshop was attended by 17 teachers from the government primary schools of Canacona.

The attendance was much less than expected, but in a positive note, the teachers were very much aware of the problems the cities face.

Most of the teachers adopt composting at home level and create art out of waste  with their students. As a result, each one created their own works of art.

The resource people were: Nalini Elvino de Sousa- manager of Communicare Trust,  Natacha Fernandes and Aira Mirchandani from Naree Artisan movement.

NAVELIM SPECIAL : 18-JAN-2016

After the success of the Government Primary Teachers workshop conducted at Rosary College Navelim, Communicare Trust was invited by the college Administration to conduct the same one for the students of its Geography Department on the 18th of January 2016.

The workshop was named: The 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

71 students attended the workshop. In her address, the Chief Guest, Nalini Elvino de Sousa, manager of Communicare Trust, said that taking responsibility and measures to spread awareness related to waste management  in the need of the hour. The principal Rev. Dr. Simão R. Diniz stressed upon creating a generation of students agents to spread awareness about the importance of waste management. The resource persons who conducted the sessions were Yogita Mehra, Prerna Pawaskar and Natacha Fernandes.

Yogita conducted a demonstration and practice session on waste segregation and kitchen gardening insisting on “Khamba” – a portable kitchen composting unit, for decomposing the biodegradable waste generated in kitchen. Prerna gave

Practical instances where through community intervention plastic waste segregation is successfully carried out in parts of Goa. Finally Natacha Fernandes and her team conducted a session in which students made innovative paper quilling using old newspapers.

DHARBANDORA : 28-MAR-2016

The Teachers of Dharbandora taluka were enthusiastic bunch with full support from an equally energetic ADEI Mr. Niranjan Naik. It was our best workshop yet. Looking forward to June and the  next one .

TISWADI : 05-JULY-2016

This workshop was conducted by Communicare Trust in collaboration with IHM, Porvorim for the Tiswadi government primary schools.

2:30pm: Yogita Mehra spoke about Composting and Wet Waste Management

3:00pm: Aira Mirchandani from Naree Artisans movement conducted a practical session and taught the teachers how to make art out of waste newspaper.

04:00pm – Tallulah D’Silva spoke about dry waste and all the activities you can do with it , including segregation and reducing the amount of dry waste generated.

The workshop was attended by 56 teachers.

BICHOLIM : 26-JUL-2016

This workshop was supported by the Lions Club of Bicholim who arranged us the hall- Hirabai Zantye Memorial Hall, the audio-visual equipment and took care of the refreshments.

Mr. Sanjeev Kadkade, from Lions Club Bicholim addressed the gathering followed by Nalini Elvino de Sousa – manager of Communicare Trust, Tallulah D’Silva from Mission Green Goa, Yoguita Mehra from Green Essentials and the team from Naree Artisan movement who had a practical session with the teachers.

Mr. Rohit Zantye, president of Lions Club Bicholim,  distributed the certificates to all the participants.

BARDEZ : 18-AUG-2016

On the 1st of September we had our Waste Management Workshop for Primary School teachers of Bardez Taluka . On our panel of speakers we had our Trustee Mr.Sushant Figueiredo who spoke about Green Building projects as well as the Dry Waste Treatment plant in Saligao. We also had Aira Mirchandani from Naree Artisans Movement who conducted a practical session with the teachers. The teachers creativity was seen in the several home décor items— Photo frames, Napkin holders and pencil stands created out of paper. The teachers were eager to implement the Waste Management techniques they learned at the workshop. About 47 teachers participated in the event.  IHM Goa and it’s administration provided us with the support. We hope to have the teachers implement the techniques and take part in our competition scheduled to be held at the end of the academic year.

PONDA : 07-FEB-2017

The Waste Management Workshop for Primary School Teachers of Ponda Taluka was organized with the support of  GVM’s management.

The program was as follows:

2:00pm – Welcome by Nalini Elvino de Sousa – filmmaker and Manager of Communicare Trust and explanation about the program “Magic Box” followed by a video

2:30pm– Sushant Figueiredo explained about the the functioning of the Saligao plant and how all can contribute so that the plant received enough waste.

3pm – The video about composting using the khamba was shown and explained by Sushant Figueiredo

3:30pm – Tea break

4:00pm: Aira Mirchandani from Naree Artisans movement conducted a practical session and taught the teachers how to make art out of waste newspaper.

05:00pm – Interaction with teachers. Teachers filled up the feedback form and received their certificates

The workshop in Ponda was attended by 94 teachers.

PERNEM : 28-FEB-2017

This was the second last workshop organized by Communicare Trust and had the support of the ADEI of Pernem.

Nalini Elvino de Sousa explained how to make movies out of waste and also how to use the Khamba – composting unit. A video was shown on how to make compost.

Aita Mirchandani from Naree Artisan movement conducted a practical session and taught the teachers how to make art out of waste newspaper.

72 teachers attended this workshop.

SANGUEM : 08-MAR-2017

This was the last workshop of this long 2 years journey through all the talukas of Goa.

21 teachers attended the workshop and were very enthusiastic when we convey about the exhibition that will be held for the north and south Government primary schools next month.

Nalini Elvino de Sousa spoke about the movies out of waste as well as abou the Khamba – composting unit.

Aira Mirchandani from Naree Artisan Movement conducted her last practical session with Communicare’s team.
