Welcome to Communicare Trust

Without language one cannot talk to people and understand them;
One cannot share their hopes and aspirations,
Grasp their history,
Appreciate their poetry,
Or savour their songs.

Connecting people through language

Communicare’s main aim is to offer as many lives as possible under one roof. The name of the cultural center partly reveals our aim: Communicare means “communication” in Latin, a language that is the origin of many of the European languages such as Portuguese, Spanish, French, German etc. However, our teaching is not exclusively restricted to European languages. We also teach our mother tongue- Konkani and a variety of other Indian languages. There are a lot of foreigners settled in Goa who utilize these facilities.

In today’s world, learning a language is more comprehensive than just learning to frame sentences. It also involves absorbing various cultural inputs of these countries. For example, as part of one of our Spanish course, the students had the opportunity to learn salsa (a very famous dance form in Latin America). In the Portuguese course, students viewed a documentary about Portugal and learnt Portuguese songs. We also organized a scrabble competition in Portuguese.

Through Kalakriti, we aim to sensitize and spread awareness among students of all age groups through imaginative thinking about waste management. Considering the growing importance of waste management in the current global scenario, it becomes extremely influential to start teaching students about the magnitude of waste management and waste segregation from a very early age.

Antonio Xavier Trindade

Fundação Oriente and Communicare Trust host a series of workshops on the stunning work of Goan artist Antonio Xavier Trindade (AXT). The workshops revolve around the life and work of AXT. Children attending the workshop, through observation and interaction explore the artist’s life and work and depict their understanding of the same. Various methods such as theater, painting etc are used.

I always dreamed of visiting the exotic country one day. But my journey wasn’t just a travel thing! I took a chance from AIESEC, an international students organization that co-operates with Communicare. Back then, they were looking for a teacher of Russian language.

And it surprised me how people in Goa want to learn Russian for communication. Thinking of the tourist department,tI realized, yes, they absolutely need it! So many Russians in Goa! But do you know that Russian is one of the most difficult languages to learn, especially the grammar? During my classes, all the students showed incredible results! They picked up the grammar and vocabulary very fast. They even tried singing songs and learned proverbs by heart. J

When I first came to Goa I was so excited about everything: beautiful nature, greenery, smiling and kind-hearted people, amazing culture! I couldn’t believe it was all around me!

Communicare team became my 2nd family. They took care of me. Helped me with stay, food, where to go and where not to go! They coordinated and took part in making a special issue of the book called “Basic Russian language course.”

Dear Communicare and Sara, Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn Portuguese.

The language was made so very easy because of your help and support. Learning Portuguese from you so well made me feel like going to Portugal.

Thank you for making my dream of learning Portuguese come true.

It was really a great experience for me and I wish to continue to learn the language more the next time I come to Goa.

Foi das melhores experiências da minha vida! Adorei Goa, as monções, o calor, a comida, conduzir, as pessoas!

Communicare Trust’s Food Bank was 1st of its kind. I was really happy to be a part of it. We generated a lot of food. I didn’t expect it would go upto 1 ton. When the food was delivered to the orphanages it was really nice to see the smile on their faces. Hope the Goans can continue to lend their support to the children of Goa.

Portuguese culture is today so imbibed in the lives of goans that it is difficult to imagine Goa without its Portuguese connection. Being all goan I always had this penchant to converse in Portuguese if not fluently as least to get attuned to the minimal needed to get along.

My tryst with Ms. Nalini de Sousa began when she agreed to take some time off her busy schedule and help me unlock my innate desire to learn to speak this beautiful language.

Learning Portuguese is not as much of a time Commitment _ under the able guidance of Communicare Trust I learnt at my own pace, the sole emphasis being the improvisation of my conversational skills. After going through the minimal basic grammar needed, the focus was conversation. The teacher practiced vocabulary and stressed on accent and pronunciation so that it became more comfortable to speak up. After all, for beginners trying to speak the language; pronouncing words is a significant challenge.

Learning to converse simple everyday spoken Portuguese with Communicare was an enriching and satisfying experience. The teachers patience, encouragement and enthusiasm helped motivate me to start speaking. She emphasized on making simple sentences without books or memorizing.

I thoroughly enjoyed Nalini’s class and always looked forward to the session. I was also fortunate to have the company of my dear friend Dr. Sara D’costa who also had the same goal of learning day to day spoken Portuguese. Nalini worked out simple and easy customized lesson plans based on everyday scenario; be it at the Supermarket, the doctors, at the restaurant etc. which fine tuned my conversational abilities.

She gave me the confidence to have sit-down table conversations on simple day to day affairs. What I truly enjoyed was the level of comfort she created around which encouraged me to speak without fear.

Communicare Trust, this is just the tip of the iceberg which you have initiated. I have miles to go and indeed that is possible only if I continue speaking and remain connected through books, television and the like.

I thank you immensely for your committed efforts and indeed look forward to some more interactive sessions in the near future.

Abraços e agradecimentos.
